I really enjoyed Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle, but I could not force myself to finish Vivian Apple Needs a Miracle. It was just bad. The story was boring, felt formulaic, the characters seemed much flatter this time around and as if someone (the author or editor) decided that the characters should fit into certain types or boxes. In addition to the actual story, it was not told well. The first Vivian Apple book did a great job of keeping the story going at a decent pace with plenty of showing vs all telling. That was not the case with this book at all. It’s disappointing because I really wanted to like the book and read about 75% of it before I gave up.
